Hi! I'm Danielle and Wood'n Knees is where I offer my hand painted Bald Cypress Knees and other hand painted wood crafts.

I am a decorative painter and have been crafting since 1995. During that time I have conducted classes in my home where the participants would come for an evening of painting wood crafts and spending time together. Many people would make it a regular, monthly activity. I also have taught classes as Hobby Lobby and other craft shows. Along with teaching classes, I would sell items at local craft shows.

Several years ago I discovered Bald Cypress Knees. Each cypress knee is unique and I try to find the Santa in every knee. Bald Cypress trees grow in the swamps along the bayous of the Southeastern United States of America. As the trees mature extensions of the root system grow above the water or ground line forming a very unique shape. These root formations are known as "knees." They are a very unique material and like snowflakes, are individual, and never the same. Collectors value this trait, knowing that regardless of the number of knees in their particular collection, they will never have two exactly the same. Harvesting these knees does not injure the tree in any way and the tree soon forms another knee and continues to grow. The knees are boiled and the outer bark removed - after they dry out they are ready to paint. I love adding personal touches to the cypress knees.
